A Junior Lifeguard primarily focuses on learning basic water safety skills, rescue techniques, scanning and surveillance practices, while also gaining introductory knowledge in first aid and CPR, all within a supervised environment, preparing them to potentially become full lifeguards in the future; their duties often involve actively monitoring swimmers, enforcing pool rules, assisting with minor incidents, and participating in training exercises to hone their skills.
Water Safety Education:
Understanding basic swimming skills, proper pool entry and exit techniques, and how to identify potential hazards in the water.
Scanning and Surveillance:
Regularly scanning designated swimming areas to identify distressed swimmers or unsafe behaviors, learning to effectively rotate scanning patterns.
Basic Rescue Techniques:
Practicing simple rescue methods like reaching rescues, throwing rescues, and learning how to properly assist a struggling swimmer.
First Aid and CPR Introduction:
Gaining foundational knowledge of first aid procedures like basic wound care, CPR techniques, and how to respond to emergencies.
Communication Skills:
Learning to clearly communicate with swimmers, fellow lifeguards, and supervisors, including giving instructions and reporting incidents
Pool Rules Enforcement:
Enforcing pool safety regulations, reminding swimmers of appropriate behavior, and addressing potential rule violations.
Physical Fitness Training:
Engaging in exercises to improve swimming endurance, agility, and overall physical fitness.
Teamwork and Cooperation:
Working collaboratively with other Junior Lifeguards, following instructions from senior lifeguards, and supporting each other during rescues.
